What Is a Mediator?

A Mediator is a specially-trained facilitator who provides information about the divorce process, provides a general baseline “shadow of the law” reference point, and ultimately guides the discussion to help the couple resolve all issues to achieve a mutually-agreeable outcome. The divorcing couple retains ultimate control over their own marriage-termination process in terms of timing, agenda, options, and final outcome. As a mediator assisting clients from all over Ohio, I work hard to bring you to the best conclusion.

How Divorce Mediation Works

Divorce mediation usually works best when both parties have similar levels of (potential) financial awareness and self-advocacy abilities.
Attorneys typically do not attend Mediation sessions, although parties are encouraged to retain their own legal counsel under certain circumstances.

The Mediation Process

Divorce mediation is a private & confidential divorce process in which a neutral Mediator meets with you and your spouse to identify, explore, and resolve the issues pertaining to your divorce or post-divorce matters.

A Gentler Process

Mediation ultimately allows couples to reach agreements that meet the needs of both parties and their children in a manner that is generally much faster and far less emotionally harmful and financially costly than traditional divorce Litigation.

Less Uncertainty and Stress

After the Mediation process, the Mediator drafts a Memorandum of Understanding memorializing the parties’ agreements regarding spousal support, child support, and property division, which is easily translated into documents required to file your dissolution with the local Domestic Relations court.

You shouldn’t put your future in the hands of a judge who doesn’t know you and go sit in the hallway and wait for a judgment to determine your fate.”
